For many years, Chuck Wood WD6APP has been a steady presence, leader, and mentor within the San Diego Repeater Association (SANDRA). As a long-time member and board member, Chuck’s contributions have gone far beyond equipment and engineering—they reflect a deep commitment to the amateur radio community and to the spirit of service that defines our club.
Among his many contributions, Chuck has generously offered something truly lasting: the continued use of his 220 MHz repeater (223.960 MHz), currently co-located in the SANDRA radio vault on Otay Mountain. With this gift, Chuck has entrusted SANDRA with stewardship of a system he helped build and maintain, ensuring that it will continue serving the community for years to come.
The repeater system includes professional-grade equipment and represents countless hours of planning, care, and technical expertise. More importantly, it stands as a symbol of Chuck’s belief in collaboration, reliability, and giving back to the hobby he loves.
In keeping with Chuck’s wishes, the SANDRA Board has formally accepted operational responsibility for the repeater and committed to honoring the conditions he established—ensuring both continuity of service and respect for his legacy.
Chuck’s generosity reflects the very best of amateur radio: knowledge shared freely, infrastructure built for the benefit of others, and a community strengthened through trust and mutual respect.
On behalf of the entire SANDRA membership, we extend our deepest gratitude to Chuck Wood for his leadership, friendship, and lasting contribution. His legacy will continue to be heard on the air and felt throughout our organization.
Thank you, Chuck, for everything you have given to SANDRA and to amateur radio.
